RED-BELLIED BLACK SNAKE. The red-bellied black snake, Pseudechis porphyracius, is one of the 10 most venomous snakes in the world. This snake was approaching two meters in length. It was sunning itself along a path at Wanungra Overlook at Lamington National Park. These snakes are acitve by day and feed on frogs, reptiles (including other snakes), and small mammals. Males engage in ritualized combat with bodies entwined and writhing. Other snakes seen at the park included the carpet python, the yellow-faced whip snake, and the tiger snake.
