YABBY. While out at Mt Coot-tha in Brisbane Forest Park doing some field work, we had some time to look for "yabbies" or crayfish in one of the small streams running through the park. This is most likely the Orange-fingered Yabby (Cherax depressus). Adults can grow to 90mm.

Unlike shrimps and prawns, crayfish are unable to swim upwards and are therefore confined to the bottom of streams and ponds. We will have a chance to see a related species later in the program, the Lamington Blue Crayfish, while at Lamington National Park.
