Ruth Creates an '8-Hour Drawing' for Exhibition

An exhibition of drawings artists created live at Bowman and Penelec Galleries at Allegheny College (Meadville, Pa.) includes the work of Nick Ruth, assistant professor of art (see image below). He and 12 other artists worked directly on the walls of the gallery in a variety of media, in a space approximately eight to 12 feet wide and 10 feet high.

This image incorporates several views of Ruth working on the drawing.

All of the artists worked in the gallery at the same time, in front of the visiting public. The drawings were done on Saturday, Aug. 28. Titled "8-Hour Drawings, VII," the exhibit is open Tuesday, Aug. 31, through Sept. 28. At the end of the exhibition the work will be painted over.

The other artists include Daniel Dove (Cleveland), Mary Collins (Pittsburgh), Amy Casey (Cleveland), Alfonso Sloan (Pittsburgh), Jeremy Boyle (Pittsburgh), Neil Anderson (Lewisburg, Pa.), J. Scott Matthews (Tallmadge, Ohio), Kristin Powers Nowlin (Lincoln, Neb.), George Mauersberger (Cleveland), Douglas Max Utter (Cleveland), Thad Kellstadt (Pittsburgh), and Mario Marzan (Pittsburgh).
