Post Card From Oz

24 October 1998

From our Queensland, Australia Trip
17 July to 27 November 1998

THE MORNING AFTER our arrival, we hiked up the headwaters of the Merivale River to the top of the Carnarvon Ranges. Along the way, Lloyd Hancock gave an introduction to the history of this region. The hike featured strenuous uphill and downhill segments.

Spur LLOYD HANCOCK, who owns Saddler Springs, discusses the Aboriginal history of Carnarvon Gorge from the overlook at Battleship Spur. Other themes for the walk were: local ecology and geology, bush tucker, introduction to the aboriginal use of the surrounding area, and the early European use of the land.
