From our Queensland, Australia Trip
17 July to 27 November 1998

CLASS TRIP. These girls from a local college (as private high schools are often called here) were on a class trip to the Queensland Art Museum across the street from South Bank in downtown Brisbane. This general area was the site of the 1988 World Expo that began Brisbane's conscious effort to transform itself from a "country town" to an international city. The current featured exhibitions were British Art: The Other Eden from the Mellon collection and an extensive showing of photographs of Dorothea Lange.

School children in Australia, whether in public or private schools, wear uniforms. Public school uniforms tend not to be so elaborate as these. Note: Hats for protection from the sun are the part of all school uniforms.
