From our Queensland, Australia Trip
17 July to 27 November 1998

SADDLER SPRINGS near Carnarvon Gorge National Park was the site of our fourth and final field trip. The 30,000 acre cattle property is the home of an "outward bound" program for street kids in Australia. There's no electricity and cooking is done on a wood stove in the dining hall shown here or over a campfire.

Showers THE ABLUTIONS BLOCK consists of two showers and a sink. There's hot water, but only if you "stoke the donkey", that is, only if you keep the fire burning under the 55 gallon hot water drum behind the showers. After our day-long hike out to Battleship Spur in the Mt. Moffat section of Carnarvon National Park, the hot showers provided welcome relief.
