STUDENT PROJECTS. Students carried out a number of different observational studies, continuing the work that had begun at North Stradbroke Island. In this project, the relationship between chiton size and spacial territory were studied in the interidal rocky shore area.

Chiton.
Phylum: Mollusca
Class: Polyplacophora
Family: Chitonidae
Chitons are an ancient group of molluscs that usually graze on algae. In the Great Barrier Reef, they are often found in intertidal pools or under rocks at the shore's edge. They graze on algae on the rocks. They form a very tight suction on the rocks and are thus able to retain moisture in a very hot environment.
