Parenting has drawn my attention to how deeply issues of gun culture have infiltrated our schools. School shooter drills and lockdown practice has taken the place of the "duck and cover" drills of the cold war era, and there is a definite effect on the psychology of young imaginative minds. ?Another completely different aspect of being a parent is that I have access to no longer needed objects filled with sentiment-- clothes that have been outgrown, diapers, etc. My artistic practice is responding by making objects that replicate the sad horror of gun culture in repurposed materials, lending them an ironic resonance.
