Day 5 of the NSI trip was devoted to work on group projects for the Marine Ecology course. Here a group works on the human impact on various crabs species (see below) on the rocky shores at Polka Point.







A second group worked on the question of whether various hermit crab species are selective about the shells which they use as "homes."




A third group worked on the distribution of holothurians or sea cucumbers like the ones below.




Holothuria notabilis, "Tonguefish" (left), and Stichopus naso, "Warty Sea Cucumber."




A fourth group worked on the orientation of oysters encrusted on the rocks at Polka Point.




A fifth group worked on the stratification of the intertidal zone by various snail species.




A sixth group worked on commensal relations between Haddon's sea anemone and a species of shrimp.




A seventh group worked on soldier crab burrowing rates for various substrates.
