So, what is the martini?

The martini is the alternative publication at Hobart & William Smith Colleges, created as a voice for those who didn't seem to have one on campus. We hope to stimulate the campus dialogue, invite different voices to share their views, encourage intellectual and creative expression, and put out there what we think needs to be said, whether it be campus, local, national, or international issues. We do (or attempt to do) all of this with an eclectic combination of liberal politics, campus commentary, sarcasm, music reviews and most importantly nonsense. The proportions of said ingredients change as editors, writers, and readers change, so hopefully we'll keep you on your feet.

We're now in year 4 of our illustrious career. The martini started out as the publication for the Progressive Student Union on campus, and it took off with such success that our fifth issue of Volume 1 was our first as an independent club on campus. Not only were they our parent club, but after independence they funded and for the most part staffed our new little paper.

Years later, and we're continuing to evolve. Or beginning to evolve, if you're a few of our staff members. Because there's always room, this website (and our publication) will hopefully see some improvements this semester. Please do send suggestions our way, chances are someone's checking the martini email account on a fairly regular basis.
