Advanced search techniques can make your research more focused and effective.  Click here for a Powerpoint guide to using these important search principles.

Books:

Locate books in the HWS Library by using our catalog in the Lobby or through our Web page http://academic.hws.edu/library.  Locate books using the white slips at the Circulation and Reference Desks.

You can identify more books on a given subject by searching over 54 million books in Worldcat  and placing interlibrary loan requests for items you would like.  Time required is usually a week to 10 days

Scholarly Journal Databases:

Historical Abstracts

America: History and Life

Humanities Index

NOTE: Many of the publications found in these databases may require Interlibrary Loan.  See a reference librarian if you have questions about this process.

Internet

Examine information from the Internet carefully before using it for research purposes.  Always be aware of who is responsible for the material, and what credentials they have for writing on the subject(s).  If you are unable to locate information about the author(s) of a site, search for the URL at Whois
