€ Attendance is mandatory for all lectures and lab sessions.  Sign up sheets will be available.  It is YOUR responsibility to sign the sheet.  Each student has three absences for any reason (e.g., athletics, sickness etc) without explanation.  The fourth absence will result in a letter grade reduction, and a half grade will be deducted for each absence after that.  Each missed lab will result in a letter grade reduction unless a valid excuse is given prior to the lab. 

 

 

Notes:

                              1.  All exams are comprehensive.

                              2.  All exams are open book. 

                              3.  No make-ups or early exams will be given.

      4.  Short, announced quizzes will be given approximately once per

           week during class.  These quizzes ARE NOT OPEN BOOK and will test conceptual knowledge (i.e., not calculations). 

 

 

 

Required materials:

 

                              1.  An Introduction to Biostatistics by Glover & Mitchell

                              2.  A TI-83 (or TI 83 plus) statistics calculator.  GET THIS!!!

                              3.  a loose-leaf three ring binder to keep many hand-outs.

                              4.  Recommended:  A third party manual for SPSS for Mac (or

                              Windows).  This is the computer stat package we will use.  Many

                              Instructions/manuals exist online and can be accessed by searching via

                              Google etc.
