She pursued this interest further in high school at LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts in New York City. As a visual art student in LaGuardia Yeasmine discovered traditional photography and realized photography was the best medium for her work. After arriving at Hobart and William Smith, Yeasmine worked with a local zine called Geneva 13, taking documentary photographs of people and events in the Geneva community. Yeasmine was the president of the Arts Collective last semester organizing events such as the Fall Music Festival and the Fashion Show. Currently she is working as a student photographer for HWS Office of Communications. Some of Yeasmine's photographs will be on display in downtown Geneva at the Red Dove Tavern starting next week.

Xiao Lin

Xiao Lin is a junior William Smith student majoring in Media and Society. She has not declared her minor yet but is considering studio art with a focus in photography. She became interested in photography after taking an introduction photography class in an after school program. In this class she learned the basics of black and white photography. The last photography-focused class she took was actually last semester at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. It was a digital imaging class where she learned how to apply basic techniques of the software Photoshop. During this class she realized she had forgotten many of the techniques she learned in B&W film photography. Seeing how easy it is to forget, spurred her determination to continue making art no matter what career path she chooses.

She enjoys taking photos of people and objects by focusing on the details of her subjects. She expressed an interest in landscape photography and would like to explore in that area in the future. She finds her inspiration in her surroundings, especially from nature. One thing she would like to own sometime soon is a fish eye camera.

So for many years, Ben has been experienmenting and looking at others' work for idea and inspiration. He prefers shooting with artificial lighting such as street lighting. The only times that he really prefer natural lighting is during dawn or dust. Between film and digital, Ben likes the hands-on aspect of film but thinks digital is definetely more convenient. She really enjoys the traditional black and white photography process, especially developing her own film and going through the print making process.
